It seemed that we had used BSA's Compass Game too many times at our District Camporee. Every time the Scouts saw a circle of stakes, they'd groan, knowing that it would be a fairly simple matter to figure out which stake to go to, even if they had trouble using the compass. Don't get me wrong, the BSA Compass Game is a great tool for teaching compass work, but it can get stale after awhile.
This course utilizes stakes set out from one central point. There are actually four courses which, if run correctly, will result in the spelling of one of the points of the Scout Law. It's useful to be able to have four groups out on the corse at the same time - keeps the waiting lines down!
Included in the zipped file is 1) a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet with all the information you'll need to set up and run the course and 2) a text file with the instructions and a .GIF file with a picture of the course layout for those of you who don't have Excel. The latter files are not as good as the spreadsheet, but you should be able to put them to good use.
